Non-governmental association "Focus Group" passed the registration at the Administration of Justice, Minsk region Executive Committee, April 12, 2002. The organization was specified as local non-governmental association concentrated on cultural and educational issues.

In 2002, the members of "Focus Group" arranged more than 25 various actions. The following events should be stressed on: regional child conference "To Make Environment Good For Children To Live"; socially directed actions; round table sessions to join representatives of governmental establishments and NGOs; discussion meetings; seminars. We made for 8 issues of the youth bulletin to be published.

Some of the actions were related to partial implementation of the project "Movement To Support Juvenile Initiatives" developed by Byelorussian Alliance of Youth and Child Non-Governmental Association "RADA" supported by UNISEF Office in the Republic of Belarus.
Apart from Minsk, the actions connected with the project were held in some small towns within Minsk region, for instance, Zaslavl, Borisov, Smolevichi, Molodechno, Nesviz.

Educational and cultural activities were the primary trends in policy of the organization. The actions were intended:

  • to support child initiatives groups; to encourage child participation in social life;
  • to develop off-institutional education for students specialized in social pedagogy;
  • to hold preventive measures to diminish drug-abuse;
  • to advance education of young people in the field in civil rights;
  • to arrange actions aimed at entertaining and mentally progressing for the students of the orphanage #5, boarding school #7, Minsk region shelter for young people under-aged;

In the second half of 2002, the youth leadership club "Perspective" was founded on a basis of the Center of Juvenile works "Evrika" (Phrunzenskiy district of the City of Minsk). Focus Group took active part in the process of defining the terms of work for the club above mentioned.

In 2003 the organisation held several international events

The trainers of "Focus Group" organized five-day seminar "Academy of Rights and Prospects" and 12-day outdoor campaign "Robinzonada-2003" in the partnership with the Center "Evrika" to provide the opportunity not only for Byelorussian teenagers but also more than 30 Georgian and Afghan children- refugees to join the event.

At the end of 2003, we undertook a sort of the re-organization to revise the work to modify of the mission and goals.

In 2004, we have renewed the practice to hold corporate discussion meetings and educational seminars for the members of Focus Group. We maintain the volunteer program concerning the work with the wards of Minsk region shelter for people under-aged. The work with teenagers, who are the members of the youth club "Perspective", is in the process of functioning.

In general, as estimated till the beginning of 2004, more than 1000 people benefited from the services Focus Group offers.
